You can watch your kids play sports, you can coach your kids in sports, but Kids First provides an opportunity for you to watch, coach, and actively PARTICIPATE in a sport with your youngster.

About Us

Kids First is adult/junior bass tournament series, although we are officially a TBF (SAF) High School fishing club, youth of all ages can fish in our events.  Our tournaments are run more like an open event, and both youth and adults fish together.  Whereas most sports only let you be a spectator at your child’s athletic events, or maybe even to coach your son or daughters sports team, Kids First provides the opportunity to watch, coach, and PARTICIPATE in a sport with your children!

The Kids First started in 2011 and is fished on Pickwick Lake. It was founded to give an opportunity for parents and their children to have a positive outlet to strengthen their relationship while promoting the sport of bass fishing. However, participation is not limited solely to parents and their children. Kids First encourages mentoring, so if you know of a youth that enjoys fishing please join us! Teams compete against each other in a much more relaxed atmosphere than can be found in many other tournament series. Our goal is to focus on sharing our love of bass fishing, promoting stewardship with nature, and most importantly strengthening the relationship with our kids.

 We are a youth fishing club and maintain a not for profit philosophy,  Kids first operates on out of pocket funding by the organizers, donations by competitors, and sponsor assistance. We do this because we believe in the ideals on which Kids First was founded, and the continually increasing participation confirms we are on the right track. Since 2016 our events have no entry fee, that’s right NO ENTRY FEE!  Trophies are given for 1st thru 3rd place and Big Fish.  We will have an optional $20 side pot for those that are interested.   So far sponsor donations have allowed us to hold drawings for door prizes AND provide grab bags to all teams at the weigh in for every event. This will continue as long as we are able to secure sponsorships.  Our hope is that no one ever goes home empty handed.

No matter if you are a seasoned tournament fisherman or someone that has never fished in a tournament, no matter if you have a brand new 21 foot fiberglass boat or a 14 foot flat bottom,  or if you have a entire tackle store in your boat or just a zip lock bag full of worms Kids First has a place for you! The only requirement is you bring a positive attitude focused on building that relationship with your youth teammate. The Kids First bass fishing tournaments are open to any adult and junior team. A junior is defined as a youth that is 18 or younger. There can be one adult and one or two juniors on a team.  Teams will weigh their five best fish – Yes, the adults can fish too! But remember the tournaments are about the kids, so let them occasionally fish in the front of the boat, make that first cast to a prime piece of cover, and if you are comfortable with it allow them some time to run the trolling motor or even the outboard. The time you spend with the kids today will make life time memories for you both. There is no better time spent than time spent with your children!

Due to the continuing government and CDC guidelines regarding social distancing and not attending large gatherings due to the Corona virus threat ALL 2020 season tournaments are CANCELLED.  We will be back in 2021!
